New security controls for mobile devices will increase data protection

Author: ROBERT S./Friday, January 11, 2019

BJC | New changes to the Office 365 environment will provide an additional layer of protection to secure BJC data and proprietary information on mobile devices.

Effective Jan. 29, 2019, phase two of the Office 365 Security Controls update will be implemented within BJC’s Office 365 environment. This update features three functional policy changes affecting all current O365 users. These changes are:

  • The ability to cut, copy and paste BJC-related data on an iOS and/or Android mobile device is now disabled, except between Microsoft O365 applications. Non-BJC data will experience no change in functionality and users will be able to cut, copy and paste non-BJC data.
  • Screen captures for both iOS and Android, as well as the Android Assistant application scanning function for Android devices, is now disabled.
  • The ability to print BJC-related data from any mobile device has been disabled. Non-BJC data will experience no change in print functionality.

These features are applicable to devices on and off the BJC network, as well as all mobile devices, whether enrolled in AirWatch or not.

As a best practice and general reminder, BJC users are responsible for being aware of, and complying with, HIPAA security regulations. These regulations can be found at www.hhs.gov.

General questions regarding the HIPAA security regulations or BJC’s information security policies should be directed to the employee’s compliance liaison or the BJC information security team.
